Since purchasing my 86 acre homestead in the Midwest in Aug. 2021, I have done several upgrades and preps to get ready for what is coming soon. I tripled the size & fixed a leaking pond, as well as dug two more ponds. I now have a total of 5 ponds for water catchment & storage and all have or will have stocked fish for food and recreation. These ponds also are great for our large flocks of ducks & geese as well as visiting wild flocks.
I had the east & west fence rows bulldozed out & cleared so new perimeter fencing & gates can be installed. Getting the place ready for meat goats, hair sheep, pasture pigs, a steer, and a milk goat. The 15 acres of pasture and more than 55 acres of woods can easily support some grazing livestock along with the vast deer herds here. I have acquired my first three meat goats, two nanny goats & a billy that will be bred this winter/spring.
I increased my heritage bird flocks by hatching my own eggs. After selling some hatchlings to fellow homesteaders, I still greatly increased the size of my flocks. I increased turkeys from 5 to 55 (will be butchering about 30 of these), increased guineas from 10 to 150, increased ducks from 17 to 36 (will be butchering about 10 of these), and increased geese from 8 to 17, and increased chickens from 12 to 14.
The large solar system is now completely upgraded and fine tuned with new lithium batteries.
Have added 3 additional chicken tractors with covered runs and 18 additional nest boxes. Added 4 incubators for hatching birds for meat & sales. Increased the size of the protected free range grazing areas to over 3 acres.
The orchard has been increased from 6 to 65 fruit & nut trees along with two dozen berry bushes consisting of raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, & thornless blackberries. The garden has been increased from 12 to 38 large raised beds, and will be building 10 more during the winter months so next year we will have 48 raised beds. Added 9 more grape vines to the vineyard and these new ones are seedless varieties. They are propagated by using cuttings rather than seeds. We also have 6 concord grape vines, the seeded varieties.
The grazing livestock herds will be increased after the fencing is completed. Will be acquiring rabbits soon after cages & rabbit tractors are built. Looking forward to the upcoming hunting seasons since the farm is teaming with rabbits, squirrels, deer, turkey, and visiting wild ducks & geese. Will likely have to add a 4th large freezer for the fowl we will be processing & the wildlife we will be hunting.
My wife has been busy cooking & canning lots of veggies from the garden. She has been canning lots of fruit, meat, eggs, jams & jellies for long term storage to go along with frozen & dry foods.
Lots more stuff going on as I am constantly adding to all of my preps. I practice what I preach. I encourage everyone to keep making forward progress on your preps. If you are still living in the cities, YOU MUST GET OUT ASAP. Once in the countryside (preferable a red state), you need to keep doing whatever you can to prepare for food shortages, power blackouts, and PLANdemics. Acquire livestock, birds, and fish while growing gardens, orchards & vineyards. Make sure you have several guns with a lifetime supply of ammo for self-defense & hunting. You never know when they could stop gun & ammo sales.
Keep doing research with some of your free time so you can keep Waking Up. So many of you are still barely awake to only 1 or 2 Truths when the TRUTH is Everything you were ever taught is a lie by design! So you actually do have to unlearn all the BS you were taught in public schools.
